Learning How to Use Luminarte's Twinkling H2O's

It's been more than a month since my last post! Yikes!!!!

I'm still working on completing the online class, Mastering Twinks I, by Dion Dior. Today, I finished the third of five lessons, so I'm going to need to pick up the pace if I want to get this class, plus two others, done before I lose access to them at the end of June.

I actually signed up for, and started, this class back in January, 2013, but got sidetracked by other classes that I subsequently started. So, it's my own fault that I am faced with this deadline!

Anyway, back then, I started by making swatches of all of the colors I had bought of the Twinkling H2O's by Luminarte. They are watercolor paints which contain mica particles in the pigments, giving them a beautiful, sparkly shine, which, unfortunately, doesn't show up very well in pictures.

Next, we drew 2 mandalas, and colored them in with the Twinkling H2O's.

The next project was to create a more intricate mandala, including a painted background, some doodling, and some shading.

Our next lesson showed us how to make circular discs of each color, which are stuck to the page with velcro, and can then be taken out and grouped together to see how the colors play off of each other. This is a cool idea, but not something that I've actually done . . . yet.

Then, we created a prismatic image using circles and lines. Each resulting section was colored a different color, and this time we also blended different colors together and added some shading to the lines.

We moved on to color wheels. First, I created a color wheel by using three primary colors from my Twinkling H2O's and mixing these together to create secondary and tertiary colors. Then, I made another color wheel with my personal collection of H2O's, putting them into their appropriate places on the wheel.

That was it for 2013, and then, two and a half years later, I found my way back to this class.

First, we learned some basic shading rules, followed by drawing some fruit, and then shading these in. I have a habit of painting any leftover paints that I have onto journal pages or other random sheets of paper because I hate to waste it, so I practiced these drawings on two pages that had been covered in excess red paint, making them a little difficult to see.

Then, we used what we learned to create a couple of still life paintings, which were fun to do, but I still need a lot more practice.

This was followed up with a lesson on drawing flowers, and daisies in particular. This was also done on pages covered with excess paint from some past painting.

Again, we used what we learned to create a prismatic daisies painting.

Now I'm on to lesson 4!
